See which superstars you might be able to target with a Bosman deal in the third season of FIFA 22’s Career Mode.
If you want to try to sign players with high overall ratings in Career Mode but don’t quite have enough for the transfer fee, you can chance it and try to sign them as a contract expiry signing. Alternatively, you can see which players filter down to the free agency.
In FIFA 22, seasoned gamers of the franchise won’t find as much joy as they used to with the old Bosman signing method, as shown in this 2022 Contract Expiry Signings piece, but there’s always a chance that some players could become contract expiry signings.
So, we’re taking a look at the best players who are set to see their contracts expire in 2024, the third season of Career Mode in FIFA 22, as you might be able to get them as contract expiry signings.
Harry Kane, Tottenham Hotspur (ST)
It’s been well reported that Harry Kane wants out of Tottenham Hotspur. The consensus is that last season, chairman Daniel Levy made a “gentleman’s agreement” with the England striker that if he stayed for another year, he’d be allowed to leave in the summer of 2021. However, Spurs rejected all bids that came in for Kane.
By the time the third season rolls around in FIFA 22, Kane will be 30-years-old and just at the end of his prime. That said, his 90 overall rating shouldn’t have faded by much, and his 94 finishing and 91 shot power will likely be intact. If the striker holds out on a deal, as the Englishman is expected to in real life, he’d make for one of the best contract expiry signings in 2024.
Erling Haaland, Borussia Dortmund (ST)
Erling Haaland is one of the hottest talents in world football, with all of the top clubs that have money in the bank queuing up to be the one to sign him when he inevitably moves on from Borussia Dortmund. This season, he scored 11 goals in the first eight games, on the back of a summer in which it was reported that the Norwegian wants to remain with BVB.
To commence FIFA 22, Haaland boasts an 88 overall rating and a potential rating of 93, which the 20-year-old will likely hit by the time that his contract is set to expire in 2024. It would take some luck for Haaland to both remain at Signal Iduna Park and not be signed to a longer deal in Career Mode, but if he does make it, he’d likely be the best possible Bosman signing in the third season.
Keylor Navas, Paris Saint-Germain (GK)
When Real Madrid decided that they were done with Costa Rica’s World Cup hero goalie, Paris Saint-Germain were more than happy to bring him to France. Since then, Keylor Navas has kept 41 clean sheets by the 88-game mark, and even managed to keep new signing Gianluigi Donnarumma out of the net through the early stages of this season.
Still a mighty 88-overall GK at the start of FIFA 22, Navas can easily be a first-choice goalie anywhere. However, as Donnarumma has an 89 overall rating, the Costa Rican will rarely play in-game, which will see his 88 overall quickly sink at the age of 34. Still, he may make for a decent back-up goalie in the low-80s, and could be left to hit the open market provided that he doesn’t retire beforehand.
Marquinhos, Paris Saint-Germain (CB)
Once the wonderkid centre back who PSG snapped up from AS Roma for some £30 million, Marquinhos is very much fulfilling his potential. The club captain continues to be a rock at the back, and this season, he’ll even have veteran Sergio Ramos by his side. The São Paulo-native has already won Ligue 1, the Coupe de France, and the Coupe de la Ligue six times each, as well as the Copa América with Brazil.
Valued at £78 million with an 87 overall rating, Marquinhos is certainly one of the best CBs in FIFA 22, and will still be in his prime for the position when he becomes a potential contract expiry signing in 2024. He should be an even better player by the third season, too, as the Brazilian boasts a 90 potential rating.
Marco Verratti, Paris Saint-Germain (CM)
Having won copious trophies with PSG, Marco Verratti is now also a European champion, having been essential in Italy’s triumph over the summer. The central midfielder is a rare mainstay at a big-money club, but has earned his place, scoring nine goals and setting up 58 more by his 350th game for Les Parisiens.
Verratti weighs-in with an 87 overall and stands 5’5’’ in Career Mode, and will be 31-years-old by the time that his contract is set to expire. Perhaps more so than his overall, the Italian’s in-game wage demands may be the main decider as to whether or not he can become a Bosman signing, given all of the high-profile contracts that PSG will have to deal with in the third season.
Wojciech Szczęsny, Juventus (GK)
Since leaving Arsenal – with more than a few question marks around his ability to play at the highest level – Wojciech Szczęsny has become the trusted netminder of the only-recently dethroned Juventus. After waiting for his turn behind the legendary Gianluigi Buffon, the Pole then leapt at the chance for the starting role, and yet, the assumption continued to be that he’d eventually be replaced by Donnarumma. Still, he remains Massimiliano Allegri’s go-to goalie.
At 31-years-old, Szczęsny has plenty of time to remain a top-class goalie. The 6’5’’ shot-stopper is rated at 87 overall from the start of FIFA 22, but is valued at a fairly reasonable £36.5 million. Still, if he keeps the crease for Piemonte Calcio, his overall should hold up, but his age may allow him to drift towards the free agency to become a prime contract expiry signing target.
Rodri, Manchester City (CDM)
After making a name for himself with Villarreal CF and Atlético Madrid in La Liga, Rodri made a £56 million move to the stacked Manchester City in the Premier League, joining at 23-years-old. Despite competition from the likes of Fernandinho and Ilkay Gündogan, the Spaniard very quickly locked down a place in defensive midfield and remains Pep Guardiola’s preferred choice in the role.
Rodri comes into FIFA 22 with an 86 overall rating, but will almost certainly reach his 89 potential rating by the time that he could become a Bosman signing in Career Mode. He’ll be approaching his prime by that point and could be one of City’s highest-rated players. So, while he would be one of the best contract expiry signings in the third season, it seems unlikely that Rodri wouldn’t be re-signed before free agency looms.
